A consortium of Climate Focus and Vertis Environmental Finance (the Consortium) has been commissioned by the World Bank to conduct a study in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine on options for the design of a Green Investment Scheme (GIS). The GIS would invest funds obtained through the (forward) sale of Assigned Amount Units (AAUs) into public and private sector sponsored projects and programmes that deliver emission reductions in Ukraine.
The Consortium wants to ensure it is providing the most effective solutions in the GIS for the country's current needs to reduce dependence on the imported fuels, improve energy efficiency and mitigate emissions from an economic and environmental perspective. Towards this goal, the Consortium is investigating how to effectively spend the proceeds from the sales of AAUs. In particular, the Consortium would like to hear the opinion of civil society regarding the areas of the Ukrainian society and economy that they consider the most in need of green investments. To reach this objective Cleaner Technologies Centre, Ukraine has organized Round Table with participation of Ukrainian NGOs.
The round-table started with the presentation of the Consortium activity concerning the project, about major aspects of the AAUs trading and of the GIS. |
